With a clipping mask, it’s much easier to place an image inside text. Follow the steps provided in this tutorial to place an image inside text.
Steps to place an image inside text using clipping mask
1. First of all, open Adobe Photoshop. We are using Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 but this also works on earlier or later versions.
2. Next, Open any image which you want to use in text. To do that, click on the File >> Open and select the file you want to open. Then click on the Open.
3. Next, unlock the layer. To do that, open Layers palette by clicking f7 or choose Window>Layers and then double click on the lock button to unlock it. And click on the OK button.
4. Next, select Horizontal Type Tool. Choose any font, size and color from the top appearing after selecting Horizontal Type Tool. In our case, we chose font = Impact, size=72pt and color=black. Now select smooth from anti-aliasing method so that your text will be smoother. Now type whatever text you want to use.
5. Next, in the layer palette, drag the text layer below the image layer and select image layer by just clicking it in the layer palette. By doing so, the text you have just typed will hide for the moment. Don’t worry about that.
6. Next, from the menu bar, choose Layer > Create Clipping Mask. You can move image inside text by selecting the move tool and fit as per your requirement.
7. As you will notice, the background is transparent, add a background color. To do that, create a new layer by clicking ‘Create a new layer button’ in layer palette. Drag that new layer below image layer and then choose Edit > Fill, in Use section, select Color… and choose Black and then click OK in Fill box.
